Delivering a Seamless Microsoft 365 Tenant Separation for Temco Wire Products Ltd

Delivering A Seamless Microsoft 365 Tenant Separation For Temco Wire Products Ltd

Project Overview

When Temco Wire Products Ltd became an independent business following its separation from its parent organisation, the company needed a completely new IT environment that it could own, manage and build upon for the future.

The project involved separating 59 Microsoft 365 user accounts from a shared Microsoft 365 tenant, deploying a new Windows Server 2025 infrastructure, migrating company data, rebuilding Microsoft Teams collaboration spaces and transitioning every company device to a new Active Directory domain—all within a single weekend.

By carefully planning every stage of the migration, SDN46 successfully delivered the project with minimal disruption, allowing employees to return to work on Monday morning with uninterrupted access to the systems they rely on every day.

Customer

Temco Wire Products Ltd

Temco Wire Products Ltd is a UK manufacturer of specialist copper and copper-alloy wire products, supplying industries including aerospace, automotive, industrial automation and electrical manufacturing.

With approximately 55 employees based in Gloucestershire, reliable communication systems, secure file storage and Microsoft 365 services are essential to the company’s daily operations.

The Challenge

Before becoming an independent organisation, Temco’s IT services were hosted within its former parent company’s Microsoft 365 environment.

Email, Microsoft Teams, user identities and collaboration services were all shared across a single Microsoft 365 tenant.

Following the separation, Temco required a completely independent technology platform without affecting business operations.

The project presented several key challenges:

  • Establish a new Microsoft 365 tenant
  • Migrate 59 Microsoft 365 user accounts
  • Deploy a new Windows Server 2025 file server
  • Create a new Active Directory domain
  • Migrate existing company data
  • Recreate Microsoft Teams collaboration environments
  • Synchronise identities using Microsoft Entra ID
  • Complete the migration within a single weekend maintenance window
  • Coordinate activities with a second external IT provider managing the source environment

Success depended on detailed planning, close collaboration and precise execution.

Our Solution

Following a detailed discovery and planning phase, SDN46 designed a phased migration strategy that allowed the entire transition to take place outside normal business hours.

A new Microsoft 365 tenant was provisioned specifically for Temco, alongside a modern Windows Server 2025 file server and a new Active Directory environment.

Hybrid identity synchronisation was implemented using Microsoft Entra ID, allowing employees to continue using familiar usernames and passwords while benefiting from a modern cloud-managed identity platform.

During the migration weekend we:

  • Provisioned a new Microsoft 365 tenant
  • Migrated 59 Microsoft 365 mailboxes
  • Deployed a new Windows Server 2025 file server
  • Migrated existing company file shares
  • Joined all company desktops and laptops to the new Active Directory domain
  • Recreated Microsoft Teams collaboration environments
  • Configured hybrid identity synchronisation
  • Performed comprehensive testing and validation before business resumed

Every stage of the migration was carefully monitored to ensure business continuity throughout the project.

The Outcome

When employees arrived for work on Monday morning, they logged into their computers exactly as they always had.

Behind the scenes, however, the organisation had been completely transformed.

Temco was now operating within its own independent Microsoft 365 tenant, supported by a modern Windows Server infrastructure, Microsoft Entra ID hybrid identity and a fully managed Active Directory environment.

Email, Microsoft Teams, shared file access and user authentication were all available immediately, allowing staff to continue working without disruption.

The project was completed successfully within the planned maintenance window, providing Temco with a secure, scalable and independently managed IT platform ready to support future growth.
