Our Accessibility Approach

SDN46 aims to provide a website that is straightforward to navigate, readable, keyboard-friendly and compatible with commonly used assistive technologies.

WCAG 2.2 Level AA is used as the working accessibility benchmark for the website. This statement does not claim formal certification or complete conformance with every WCAG success criterion. The practical objective is that visitors should be able to understand the content and complete the tasks the website provides without avoidable barriers.

What We Build For

SDN46 considers areas including:

  • clear page structure and meaningful headings;
  • keyboard navigation and visible focus;
  • sufficient colour contrast and readable text;
  • meaningful alternative text where images convey information;
  • links and controls that make their purpose understandable;
  • layouts that remain usable at different screen sizes and zoom levels; and
  • avoiding unnecessary movement, complexity or interaction that could make content harder to use.

Testing And Limitations

SDN46 uses automated and structural checks as part of the website build and review process to identify accessibility problems that can be tested reliably in that way.

Automated checks cannot prove that a website is fully accessible or that it conforms completely with WCAG 2.2 Level AA. Accessibility also depends on matters that require practical and human judgement, including whether content is understandable, controls behave as expected, alternative text is meaningful and real tasks can be completed without unnecessary barriers.

If a material accessibility issue is identified, SDN46 will assess it and make a proportionate correction rather than relying solely on a previously passing automated test.

Third-Party Content And Services

Some website functions may depend on third-party services. SDN46 considers accessibility when selecting and configuring those services, but may not control every aspect of an external platform.

Where an external service creates a material accessibility problem, SDN46 will consider whether a practical alternative way of completing the same task can be provided.

Keeping Accessibility Current

Accessibility is not a one-off launch task. Material changes to page structure, navigation, forms, interactive components, third-party integrations or visual presentation should be considered for accessibility impact as part of the change.
